A Catalyst for Cognizance and Change

$300,000 over 48 months. More.

First-Step Grants

Beloit College, Knox College, Lake Forest College, Monmouth College, and Ripon College

$25,000 over 12 months. The collaborative will develop strategies for faculty-driven assessment of liberal education that rest primarily on course assessment. Participants will seek ways to preserve pedagogical autonomy as a building-block of an effective assessment program while taking into account the programmatic context in which courses are offered. More.

Bethel University, Asbury College, Gordon College, Greenville College, Houghton College, Mount Vernon Nazarene College, and Northwestern College

$25,000 over 12 months. The collaborative will conduct two workshops to review its practices in general education and current approaches to assessment. More.

The College of Wooster, Denison University, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, and Ohio Wesleyan University

$25,000 over 12 months. The collaborative will hire an assessment expert to work as a consortial consultant and workshop coordinator and convene two assessment workshops. The year's work should result in revised assessment plans, the development of tools for value-added and general education assessment, and a commitment from faculty at each institution for further work on assessment. More.

Moravian College, Drew University, Lafayette College, Muhlenberg College, Roanoke College, and Susquehanna University

$25,000 over 12 months. The collaborative will develop expertise in interactive assessment expertise (ie. assessment methods that emphasize face-to-face interactions between investigators and students) and delineate specific questions participating institutions want to answer through value added assessment. Key activities will include hiring an assessment consultant and running a conference. More.

$25,000 over 12 months. The collaborative will explore and utilize methods for assessing institutional creativity, paying close attention to the qualitative features of an institution that add value to a liberal education. More.
