PROJECTS TO PROMOTE AND STREGNTHEN LIBERAL EDUCATION
New York, NY (December 13) – The Teagle Foundation today announced approximately $1.4 million in grants for projects at six colleges and universities and a consortia of three higher education associations intended to promote and strengthen liberal education. It also includes funding for hurricane recovery efforts at Dillard University and Tulane University in New Orleans. These grants bring Teagle’s grant making total to just over $4 million in the past year.
“Liberal education should provide students with the intellectual tools they need as they struggle with life’s big questions about themselves, their morals and values and their place in society,” said W. Robert Connor, president of the Teagle Foundation. “We hope the ideas that emerge from these projects will help strengthen liberal education not only on these campuses but at other institutions as well, so that all students in the liberal arts get the help they need in answering these big questions.”
$500,000 will fund five projects to generate fresh thinking about how to strengthen liberal education. These projects are part of Teagle’s Working Groups in Liberal Education program and are a result of a Request for Proposals that the Foundation issued earlier this year.
